Phyathai Sriracha Hospital
Phyathai Hospital (pronounced pie ya thigh) in Sriracha (about an hours
drive South from Bangkok and just 30 minutes from the exciting beach resort
of Pattaya) is very conveniently located right in the center of town. It's
very close to the ever popular Robinson's Shopping Mall and if you walk
right through the Mall to the back exit, Phyathai Hospital is right there.
The city of Sriracha is home to quite a large contingent of
Japanese citizens, many of them working or associated with the nearby
booming container ship port of Laem Chabang. The surrounding area
in which the hospital is located
is not too up scale (lots of interesting small shops and a smattering of
Japanese Karaoke Bars and coffee shops), but once you enter the main lounge
of the hospital you will surely be quite impressed.
The first term that comes
to mind is Huge! Not quite on the scale of Grand Central Station in New
York, but getting there! It seems to be very busy most mornings with a
mixture of both Thais and International patients from all over the world.
There are many friendly ladies dressed in traditional Thai outfits and they
are only too happy to help you. It gives you a wonderful welcoming feeling!
The various specialties of
medical care seem to be conveniently placed on the circumference of the
lounge so it is quite easy to find the doctor you are looking for or their
International Staff, able to converse in many languages.
Phyathai Hospital Sriracha has well
staffed departments for all of the standard categories of medicine;
orthopedic, cosmetic surgery, aesthetics, weight loss or bariatric,
gynecology and fertility, urology, cardio-thoracic, ear nose and throat,
general surgery, neurosurgery and vascular surgery, but patients come from
far and wide particularly for joint surgery at this hospital - knee and hip
replacement, resurfacing and arthroscopy. Also, they have a fine, very
popular, plastic surgery facility.
Unlike most International
Hospitals in Thailand, there is no Starbucks or Bon Cafe coffee shop, but
they do offer free, help yourself, coffee, tea and soft drinks plus a real
live musician to entertain you.
Right now, Summer 2008,
extensive redecorating is taking place (quite discreetly) to establish the
brand name and to renovate where required. The hospital is 14 years old but
will soon again be as good as new.
